Wireless charging has been introduced into the consumer electronics market. Nowadays, smart phones equipped with wireless charging function are not new. Next, the market will focus more on charging speed and efficiency.

Although the cost of wireless charging components is high, manufacturers should set their business focus on the more sophisticated medium and high-end equipment market in the future, and pay more attention to the development of high-power standards and emerging applications in order to seize business opportunities.

      After Apple (Apple) introduced the wireless charging function into iPhone in 2018, terminal users began to gradually realize the function of wireless charging. Most of the requirements for this function are fresh taste, few have too much demand for charging efficiency; however, after entering 2019, terminal users will have higher requirements for charging efficiency and charging speed, and will start to have brand recognition appear. At this stage, the next opportunity for wireless charging will be the more sophisticated medium and high-end market, and manufacturers should also operate in this direction.

In the early stage, WPC defined the output power below 5W as low power and 5 ~ 120W as medium power. However, due to the large power range of 5 ~ 120W, the power output was re divided into BPP (baseline power profile) and EPP (extended power profile) standards with power output below 5W in 2015. True medium power is defined as above 60W.

In terms of the development of the definition of medium power, some people in the industry believe that the transmitter (TX) of 60W must also support the receiver (Rx) of charging equipment with a capacity of 5-15W. At present, the cost of a set of wireless charging module with TX and Rx of Qi specifications ranges from US $6 to US $9. However, the cost of medium power group may be as high as $100. Therefore, in order to consider the cost of commercialization, the implementation of this route is still uncertain.

At present, WPC alliance has decided to launch a high-power (100-2400w) standard for kitchenware and kitchen appliance market. At present, the trademark and standard name are in the voting resolution of the alliance.

According to the professional personnel forecast, from the end of 2018 to the beginning of 2019, there will be more and more TX products of EPP, and the high-power demand of 65 ~ 120W will gradually increase in the second half of 2018; the TX in the car will also be gradually popularized. On the other hand, although the TX and Rx of wearable devices generally have more customized requirements, due to the waterproof demand of wearable devices, it will also become an important kinetic energy that will drive wireless charging penetration.
